You never know what God will put on your heart. In the middle of my testimony during our prison ministry I stopped to talk about Crispy Chicken. This is a recipe for a closer walk with Christ for us and our children. Mrs Wilma was telling me earlier that day she had fixed chicken for lunch and she let the chicken sit on a rack and cool instead of wrapping it in a paper towel. She said she wrapped it in a paper towel because that’s what she had always seen her mother do and it has always been soggy.Children take in everything they see, especially from there parents. As a parent I want my children to have crispy chicken and don’t want them to learn anything from me to lead them to a lifetime of soggy chicken. The main ingredient is free for all who believe.
Romans Chapter 1 and 2
We started the meeting by reading the first 11 verses of John Chapter 10. In this portion of the scripture, Jesus tells a parable that portrays Himself as a shepherd and His followers as His sheep. Verses 4 and 5 really hit me hard. I ask everyone to read it and comment on what you get from the scripture.

Chapter 1

Paul is writing a letter to the Romans explaining his upcoming arrival, and how he is excited to see them so that they all may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. This made me think of the importance of getting together with other Christians and also what this bible study does for me. After a very warm and polite introduction, Paul tells them that he is not ashamed of the gospel and that he is obligated to preach the gospel to everyone. Then explains to them how, since the creation of the world, God has made His plain for us clear by His eternal power and divine nature but we have choosen to suppress the truth with wickedness. He says that although some claimed to be wise, they become fools, exchanging the glory of God for images of mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Paul was being brutally honest with these guys toward the end of chapter 1, telling them that because they didn’t think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not be done, and then gave a lot of examples of the wrongs they were doing. They began worshiping the things God had created rather than the one real God!!!

After reading this I wondered if this is why Jesus had to come and rescue us. I am thinking that the old devil had convinced most of the world that they could get to heaven by worshiping these idols, after all God created them, he would say. So God sent us Jesus, the prime example of how we should live and the one and only way to get to heaven. Think about it and let me know what you think.

Chapter 2

Paul is reminding us that we will be judged as we judge others and tells us that we have no right to pass judgment on anyone as long as we are doing the same things ourselves. Although I fail at it more times than I care to mention, I do my best not to judge others but to only judge myself, because my actions are the only ones that I will have to answer for and If I don’t keep a pretty good eye on ole Clay, I will either stray off the path or stay right where I am. Neither of which is what I want to do.

In Romans 2:12-16, Paul is talking about being judged under the law and apart from the law. We discussed whether or not he is telling us that if you have not heard the law, such as a child or someone that lives under a rock in Bangladesh, you would not be judged under the law but rather be judged simply by the way you have lived your life. I think we need to talk about this more next Sunday because I am not sure what conclusion we came up with.

In Romans 2:17-29, Paul is warning of the dangers of claiming to follow God and not actually following Him. He says that God’s name is blasphemed by those how do this.
